Get to know Danny Mitchell.
Danny Mitchell has called the community of Gilroy home for 60 years! When he was nine years old, his parents moved the family from South Dakota and opened Becky’s Burger Pit Restaurant on 10th & Monterey. Strong work ethics has been with Danny since he was twelve. He caught a 6am bus for Salinas and picked strawberries all day to make money for his school clothes. He also picked prunes and apricots in the east foothills of Gilroy until he was 16. When Sambo’s Restaurant came to town, Danny worked as a dishwasher and at 18 was promoted to assistant manager. At 21, Danny owned his own Sambo’s in South San Jose. Seven years later, he returned to college for a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, which led him to a career in accounting & finance. In 1993, Danny joined a manufacturing company, owned by a Gilroy high school classmate. Danny retired as a partner and chief financial officer in 2018.
Danny is driven to continue working and serving others within the local community he’s called home all these years.
In retirement, Danny enjoys time with wife, Nita, and his blended family of 4 children and 13 grandchildren and then some!
